Reintegration 2nd track is a legal obligation
The use of a 2nd track is a legal obligation for the employer. The second track is started after the 8th week at the earliest and after the 52nd week at the latest. That is 6 weeks after the needed evaluation. A 2nd rail section covers approximately a period of 9-12 months with a legal maximum of two years. It is the company doctor who determines in this process which activities the reintegration candidate can perform. If the employer is in default, the UWV will impose a wage penalty at the end of the waiting period of 104 weeks. Since it is not easy for an employer to relocate a sick employee externally, in most cases a reintegration agency is engaged. Content reintegration 2nd track routes

Reintegration 2nd track often includes three types of activities. In the first place, this is job application guidance. It is also a prominent element that the UWV looks at when assessing reintegration efforts. It is therefore important for the employer to monitor this carefully and to record this accurately in the reports to prevent wage sanctions. Secondly, personal development and guidance is an important pillar. And thirdly, there is job hunting, which is often crucial to make second track reintegration successful. As a whole, a 2nd track trajectory comprises a whole range of activities and modules that can be deployed depending on the reintegration candidate and situation. Examples are assessments, (re)training, grieving, guidance towards independent entrepreneurship, exploring the labor market, trial placement and aftercare. Furthermore, 2nd track trajectories can be tailored to specific target groups with associated instruments such as job coaching.

Reintegration guidance at 2nd track
The timely engagement of a capable reintegration specialist significantly increases the chance of success in 2nd track. Where re-integration of the 1st track can often still be carried out relatively easily by the employer, this is usually a lot more difficult for the 2nd track. There is a lot involved and a lot is at stake. Think of knowledge and experience with reintegration regulations and the UWV and having the required competences to properly guide reintegration candidates to new work. Or estimating the financial risks for the company, which can be significant. A reintegration professional can make a big difference. They can also use alternative employment contracts and constructions to get the reintegration candidate back to work. Think of work experience places, trial placement, secondment or independent entrepreneurship. In addition, they are aware of the various subsidies and schemes that are available for target groups who find it more difficult to find work. Examples of this are people with an occupational disability or older employees for whom different schemes exist.
